Mount Canigó is classified "Grand Site de France" and is the emblem of the Pyrénées Orientales and Pays Catalan.
Canigou is commonly known as the ‘Pic du Canigou’ and is the Catalans’ sacred mountain. It is 2,784 meters high and a hot spot for hiking and outdoor activities. Classified Grand Site de France in July 2012, the massif is nowadays recognized as an exceptional natural area that must be protected.

Our circuit offers a truly memorable experience, taking you to the Chalet de Cortalets via the Balaig Forest and returning via the Llech Forest. (These routes are not accessible to the general public, they are reserved for licensed companies and can only be made during the permitted season - usually May to October *) Tours are taken in specially adapted vehicles to ensure your safety and comfort. Our experienced drivers stop at vantage points along the trail enabling you to enjoy the breathtaking scenery and unrivalled views across the region to the coast.
When we reach our destination Chalet de Cortalets at 2175m you may wish to continue on foot to the Pic du Canigou (the summit) or sit back and relax with a picnic or a drink or meal at the Chalet. Rooms are also available and can be booked direct with the Refuge des Cortalets.

The weather in the mountains is changable and you are advised to bring warm, water and windproof clothing (even during the summer months) and wear sensible footwear.
As the famous British explorer Ranulph Fiennes once said "There is no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing !"
